That OG photo is downright creepy IMO. Congrats on 2. I do wish you weren’t paywalling some of your posts, but I guess that’s what happens eventually on SS
Its a comment to the wider SS community, but i do feel like everyone has their hand out, and among my wider peer group its a turn off. It’s not personal, Bill, I feel like you offer a boots on the ground working photog perspective that few others do.
I appreciate your response. I will confess that it rubs me the wrong way for a dozen different reasons that perhaps I will write about in the future.
Suffice it to say I spend a preposterous amount of time on this newsletter, and the thought of readers being annoyed that I've got my hand out is... disheartening.
This is how the system works, whether we like it or not. Somebody had better pay for it — whatever "it" may be — or it's going to disappear. It's never worked any other way.
It used to be that some middleman would pay people like me to make things, and you'd pay them to see some vetted good shit.
But the system doesn't work that way any more. The burden is on every individual who makes things to get paid for it on their own, five dollars at a time.
This is not meant to chastise, but to inform. Thank you for reading.
Congratulations on turning two! And great news about the imminent return of Outdoor Photographer - as an outdoor photographer myself, I used to devour that magazine every month.
I'm floored when I think of what might've happened if I'd gotten up from the table five minutes later. Neighbor's fence could've gone up. More trees (I lost two because of the fire). It could've been bad but, randomly, it just wasn't.

I have feelings about your comment. Please say more.

Heard.
Congratulations, Bill! I'm having fun here and can tell you are too. Please keep going!
Thanks, Andy. I appreciate it! The fun is key.

It's such a fluke that it went away in the first place. I'm pleased to see it attempt a comeback. 🤞
Awesome and awesome. Also, glad you were able to contain the fire. Must've been quite the rush.
Thank you! It was most definitely a rush.
